We do not operate as other recruiters. We do not hire and fire as and how we see fit. We bring people into the business that we see a genuine future with and will do everything we can to keep our employees happy and motivated.
Below is an outline of our recruitment process, so you know what to expect during your application.
The first stage will be a conversation with our Talent Manager, Jo Whittaker. This may be after a direct application to one of our adverts, after we found your CV online, or after you were referred to us. At Millar Cameron we know we have to be proactive to find the best people on the market.
Jo will schedule in a convenient time to talk to you, so that you can have an open and honest conversation with her about your career and what you are looking for as a next step. In return, Jo will give you an insight to Millar Cameron, allowing you to understand what we do and what life is really like here.
First Stage Interview
This will be face-to-face with our management team. If you are interviewing for a position in our Oxford Office, you will meet Richard Elvidge and Conor O’Callaghan. For those applying to London, you will be interviewed by Edward King, who will be joined by either Tom Jeffes or Fanny Kone.
We believe that an interview is very much a two-way process – we are not trying to catch you out or interrogate you. Our interviewers want to get to know you. As they may be about to become your colleagues, it is imperative that you gel and can work with them. They will also give you a better understanding of the challenges you are going to face and see how your hard work will be rewarded.
One thing that we always ask people to do is prepare. Learn as much as you can about the company before the interview, as this will give you a better idea of who we are and what we do, and if we are the kind of company you want to be a part of.
We encourage everyone to bring as many questions with them as necessary, whether it is specific to the company or recruitment as a whole. By the end of the interview, we want you to be able to visualise yourself in the company in the role you are applying for and be certain that it is something you want to do.
Second Stage Interview
This is a more technical interview. Getting this far means we can definitely see a place for you in the company. The purpose of this interview is to make sure you are able to conduct yourself in a professional manner.
The second stage interview is broken up into two elements. First, you will have a second interview where you may be asked any questions raised after your first interview. Second, we will ask you to make a presentation. This will be a sales pitch selling the services of Millar Cameron to those who know it best, so be prepared to be quizzed on what you have said. You will need to think fast and consider how you will overcome objections you may not have considered.
We do not expect the presentation to be perfect. What we are looking for are those who have put in the time and effort into preparing, have thought carefully about what they are going to say, can project themselves with confidence, and have gained an understanding about what Millar Cameron is about.
Once this is over you can breathe easy.
Everyone who makes it through the interview stages is asked to complete a psychometric assessment. This helps us assess where you may need support the most and the kind of attitude you will bring to the company. This allows us to tailor the way you are managed and the training you receive.
The final hurdle, and hopefully the smallest, is that we always ask for references to get an outsiders perspective on how you may cope with the challenges of recruitment.
Once we have received your references and everything is positive, you will be told verbally by Conor, Richard or Edward that we want you to join us. Shortly after this, Rachael, our Operations Manager, will send you a written offer.
