Leaf Services Manager

A well renowned agribusiness with expanding operations across sub-Saharan Africa is currently recruiting for a Leaf Services Manager in Tabora, Tanzania.

The Role

This is a brand-new position, created due to growth in the company. Reporting into the Agronomy Director, this role will have oversight of crop production as well as training of smallholder farmers across the country.

The successful Leaf Services Manager will have the following responsibilities:

Monitoring quality and yield of crop production
Providing outstanding agronomy expertise to stakeholders and smallholder farmers, ensuring that best practices are followed, leading to a high quality and sustainable crop
Ensuring that seed distribution to smallholder farmers is done timely and efficiently
Overseeing seedling production, field preparation, fertilization rates, fertilizer types and cultivation strategies
Developing due diligence standards, ensuring that agreed numbers of smallholders meet these standards and that these standards are upheld
Analysis and reporting on data captured from all growing regions
Working with the Agronomy Operations Manager to set regional agronomy budget
Ensure contracted smallholders adhere to regulations, such as registering with agricultural board
Developing farmer training material in line with regional standards
Carrying out training with smallholder farmers on best agronomic practices
Working with Sustainability team to implement sustainable practice programmes
Promoting and maintaining awareness on environmental issues

The ideal candidate for the Leaf Services Manager will have the following experience and characteristics:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in agriculture, agribusiness or agronomy
5+ years’ experience in crop production
Extensive background working with smallholder farmers
Excellent understanding of agronomy and agronomic processes
Confident using farming electronic systems
Financial management and budgeting experience
Understanding of GAP, STP and other audits
Experience managing and mentoring teams
