The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is a “Global Call for Transformational Country Partnerships” aiming to fast-track solutions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Philanthropies, multilateral & development finance institutions, as well as governments, have provided more than USD10 billion to focus on fossil fuel transitioning, grid-based renewables and distributed renewables.

The COP26 is a UN Climate Change conference, hosted by the UK government in partnership with Italy, which brings parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of The Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention On Climate Change.
When countries negotiated this, they agreed to limit the rise in global average temperature to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to not exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The UN Climate says 'Implementation of the Paris Agreement requires economic and social transformation based on the best available science”.
The Rockefeller Foundation are at the forefront of contributing towards this agenda and are proudly one of the anchor institutions of the recently launched Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet. The other anchor philanthropies are IKEA Foundation and Bezos Earth Fund.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is a “Global Call for Transformational Country Partnerships” aiming to fast-track solutions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Philanthropies, multilateral & development finance institutions, as well as governments, have provided more than USD10 billion to focus on fossil fuel transitioning, grid-based renewables, and distributed renewables. Over the next decade, the Alliance aims to unlock USD100 billion in public and private capital and tackle three profound human problems simultaneously:
- POWER – reaching one billion people with reliable, renewable energy
- CLIMATE – avoiding and averting four billion tons of carbon emissions
- JOBS – building an on-ramp to opportunity by creating, enabling, or improving 150 million jobs.
