What made you decide to work in recruitment?

To play match-maker obviously, in terms of finding the perfect person-job fit. It seemed like a good chance to help candidates find a better opportunities and speak to people around the world. In addition, once a placement is complete it makes the client and my team happy. It’s a triple win!

Recruitment is a difficult industry to be in. What made you think you would be well suited to succeed?

I didn’t, I took a leap of faith and banked on my good judgement, ability to deliver under pressure and social skills.

Was there something specific which attracted you to Millar Cameron?

I initially saw it as an opportunity to try my hand at global recruitment. Once I spoke to a few of my potential colleagues from the Oxford team I could tell I would enjoy the work culture. Everyone seemed great and they were extremely welcoming, this instantly made me want to be part of the team.

What is your role at Millar Cameron and which sector do you work in?

I’m a Recruitment Resourcer and I focus on roles in the logistics, shipping and cement industry.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Speaking to candidates with varied backgrounds and cultures, from countries all over the world.

What is the difference between working in the industry as compared to what you imagined it would be like?

I was surprised at how quickly some roles get snapped up.

What is your biggest achievement so far on the job?

Being able to connect with my clients and understand their needs.

What has been your biggest challenge?

In a role where I have to talk to a lot of people continuously it can be challenging at times, occasionally some people can be difficult to talk to and this is something that I have had to learn to adapt to.

What piece of advice would you give someone who was thinking of getting into recruitment?

Recruitment is a roller coaster: if you like the sound of surges of happiness, sudden breaks and unexpected turns then come and join the party!

What is your best tip for working in recruitment?

Understand your client and what they are looking for.

What is the one piece of advice you would give a candidate looking for a new job?

Aim to meet requirements whether that’s through experience or education - a degree can be very valuable given the right role. Also ensure your LinkedIn profile is kept up to date.

What are your ambitions at Millar Cameron? What do you want to achieve?

Over the past few months, I’ve come to realise that Millar Cameron has become an integral part of my life. My immediate ambition is to exceed my targets, but in the long-term I would like to assist Millar Cameron with growth on a global scale and continue to learn.

Apart from recruitment, what else do you do outside of work?

I try to visit the gym over the weekend, read a book and catch up with friends. I also make genuine attempts NOT to kill my flatmates with my absurdly spicy food when I try my hand in the kitchen.
