Millar Cameron Secures Four Executives for a Sub-Saharan Private Equity Investor
Find out how Millar Cameron secured four key individuals for the senior leadership team of a Sub-Saharan Private Equity investor.
Africera had built a core team of partners that had both investment and operational skills. However, in order to secure the funding from investors they needed to bring in a number of other positions.
Millar Cameron started by conducting and salary mapping exercise of the UK and South African investment markets, this information allowed Africera to produce actuate budgets and financial models to share with investors. This exercise also gave us our budgets for each position.
Following an in detailed conversation with the Chairman we identified which positions they needed targeting prior to close.
Following the creation of detailed job descriptions, Millar Cameron identified similar funds or organizations that were involved in similar activities. We then targeted the individuals in the positions that we were focusing on. We also identified which positions required agro processing/ food experience and which didn’t.
There was no sensitivity around the position, so we also agreed a visible and wide spread advertisement campaign. Our final methodology included a diverse approach including direct head hunting, advertisement and database searching.
Millar Cameron ran a pre agreed interview process – this process had a set timeline as the candidates needed to be identified and confirmed by the 1st of November for the final round of investment meetings.
Therefore we followed a strict timeline with a 3 week identification and shortlisting processing at the end of which 4 candidates for each position were presented. This was followed by a 2 week Africera interview process initially on Skype followed by face to face interviews in London with the Partners.
Following this process the top 2 candidates were selected for each role and following confirmation that each candidates would be able to support Africera in the pre close period conditional offers we made and confirmed.
Millar Cameron successfully found candidates for all of the pre close requirements – candidates were in position prior to the first week of November and all information correlated resulting in a successful round of final meetings with the investors. The Africera is currently heading towards its first close with a strong senior management team in place.
Millar Cameron has continued to support Africera and are currently identifying operating teams for their investments in 2017.
Millar Cameron has done an outstanding job in helping us identify and recruit exceptional investment and management professionals in both Africa and the United Kingdom. The firm enjoys by far the best knowledge of local jobs markets and the availability of professional personnel in diverse geographic locations, and without Millar Cameron helping us to navigate these new and foreign territories, we would not enjoy the strong position that we are in today.
Millar Cameron is a highly professional organisation that made the concerted effort to understand our business model, our needs for specialised professionals in specific African geographies and then made a concerted effort to match our needs with the best possible solutions. They did this quickly, efficiently and in the most professional manner possible. I would highly recommend Millar Cameron to any origination that is thinking of entering frontier markets, such as Africa, as well as developed markets, such as the United Kingdom.
They have proved themselves and will continue to be an invaluable resource for us.
