Millar Cameron Conducts the Search for a Real Estate Investor in West Africa
The individual needed to be a strong leader and have experience of completing projects of over $200 million in emerging markets.
Our client is the leading Real Estate investor into emerging markets. They have and continue to sustain a brand of excellence, leadership and stability.
They required a replacement CEO for their business in West Africa. The individual needed to be a strong leader and have experience of completing projects of over $200 million in emerging markets.
This had to be done confidentially in order to protect our client’s reputation as they sourced a new leader.
West Africa is a challenging location to hire talent even if individuals have experience in other emerging markets.
In order to offer out client a wide range of profiles from emerging markets Millar Cameron engaged on a retained campaign. We agreed to submit an initial long list of 10 suitable candidates for the client to select.
Our strategy was to map global (Real Estate) emerging markets, however they equally had to be able to sustain projects of over $200 million. We spoke in detail to 145 profiles with experience in: India; Indonesia; China; Syria; Mexico; Nigeria and Colombia. As the role was in confidence we were not able to advertise, all of the profiles were sourced and approached directly. Throughout the process we did not divulge the name of our client or major aspects of their projects in order to protect their identity.
Our process included a detailed 1 hour competency based interview designed to understand the leadership potential of our long list.
The long list of 10 was reduced to a shortlist of 3 which were then flown to the UK for interview. Once our client identified their preferred candidate we supported both parties through the offer and onboarding. This was made more apparent because our client required the successful profiles to start earlier due to their work load.
The successful candidate accepted the role and on our advice flew to West Africa to meet stakeholders of the projects and to secure housing.
Our client was able to make an offer to their preferred candidate 4 months after giving us the initial brief. This enabled them to start the on boarding process and carry out initial works in the UK before he flew to West Africa.
The CEO is established within our client’s structure and is currently overseeing some of the most important projects they have managed since their establishment.
