Appointing a COO to drive vision into execution
Crucible, a mission-driven education startup, was preparing to scale rapidly, aiming to launch up to 10 new schools annually across Africa. To support this ambitious growth, Millar Cameron was engaged to identify and recruit their first Chief Operating Officer: a leader capable of translating vision into disciplined execution while building scalable systems across multiple, decentralised geographies.
Our success stories
Insight and expertise, applied
From executive search to board advisory, our services meet you wherever you are in the hiring lifecycle. Whatever the challenge, we bring the insight and expertise to solve it.
Sector knowledge that meets global reach
We appoint senior leaders across six sectors and five continents — people with both sector credibility and the judgement to deliver. Our reach comes from years embedded in these markets, not a database.
What people say about us
Our team had a great experience working with Tim and Hamish at Millar Cameron through a challenging search. They are knowledgeable about the market, provided strong candidates and led a very smooth process from end to end. We've just filled the role and we're already looking to engage Millar Cameron on another upcoming search.
The quality of candidates was great, and the screening process was thorough, leading to a strong and well-considered shortlist. While the process did take longer given the funding process, overall, it was a positive experience.
The Millar Cameron team not only identified exceptional candidates from a range of (often unique) backgrounds, but were also able to pre-empt the strengths and concerns we would see in each candidate, and act as a thought partner throughout the decision making process.
Our specialists
Every brief is matched with specialists who've delivered proven results in that space — no generic playbook, just relevant experience applied precisely.

His career has seen him work with a wide range of clients in the UK and Europe and in the past 15 years, in Africa where he has handled projects across the Continent.
Tim has completed a particularly broad spread of assignments including board and non-executive appointments for African utilities, senior finance and commercial positions in listed software and telecoms businesses, investment professionals for private equity and development finance institutions, and heavy-weight project & programme directors for leading construction companies and infrastructure asset owners.
