A new terminal is being constructed in Konta, Guinea, and the business requires a ‘hands-on’ General Manager to play a pivotal role in setting up the terminal’s infrastructure and staffing requirements. The terminal will handle 1.5 million tonnes of cargo in its first year and this will rise to 2-3 million tonnes per annum thereafter.
The business has been awarded the contract to operate and manage a bauxite export terminal for a mining company; the terminal will receive, stockpile, and load bauxite exclusively.
The General Manager will lead and oversee the receipt of bauxite, weighing, stockpiling, and loading onto barges. They will be responsible for all operations and maintenance of the cargo handling equipment and facilities at the terminal, as well as ensuring that health and safety standards and environmental regulations are met. Ultimately, the General Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the business meets and exceeds contractual obligations, including regularly reporting on performance to the client.
The General Manager needs to be efficient and effective in leading a team and delegating responsibilities. They will be adept at liaising with a range of stakeholders, from the client to the authorities, the terminal team and the management at head office in the UK.
