Strengthening governance and corporate affairs

About

Regal Springs has a deep history spanning back 32 years. It was acquired by Gold Springs Group in 2016 and has since become the global leader in Tilapia production. Regal Springs is a truly vertically integrated organisation, with production and processing facilities in Indonesia, Mexico and Honduras and a commercial presence in North America, Europe, South East Asia and South America.

Following a long standing professional partnership that supported Regal Springs through key transitions their Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability had decided it was time to step down. This provided the opportunity and need to appoint a Group General Counsel & Head Corporate Affairs. Through our historic work with Regal Springs, supporting them with Senior Management and Executive hires we were well placed to provide support with the search.

The challenge

Regal Springs engaged Millar Cameron to complete an executive search process and identify the best individuals for the position. These candidates needed to possess an understanding of legal and operational compliance, as well as the ability to manage operations across a wide geographical and cultural footprint within the aquaculture or seafood sector. Regal Springs were keen to highlight the importance of individuals that had operated internationally and that could add value to the executive leader team through governance, risk management and strategy.

We have worked with Millar Cameron on several occasions for senior expert roles, group, and executive-level positions. We engaged with them on an executive search process to support our hire of a Group General Counsel & Head Corporate Affairs. They provided a strong partnership for the search, demonstrating extensive market knowledge and key process management.

Our approach

As a business that is putting in foundations for the strengthening of their structure for the future, it was key to highlight Regal Springs’ journey and their future strategy to potential candidates. Millar Cameron, utilising its’ extensive aquaculture network and robust methodology, identified key individuals interested in being a part of well-placed business within a rapidly growing sector. Millar Cameron conducted a thorough market mapping exercise of the aquaculture and seafood industry to identify the best talent within the space. Individuals were approached, engaged with, and interviewed for the position, allowing Millar Cameron to present a comprehensive shortlist to Regal Springs.

The outcome

Regal Springs hired an exceptional individual who had a strong international track record, having occupied senior positions at large multinationals. The candidate chosen also possessed an undeniable and demonstrable passion for the aquaculture space, along with the expertise to contribute to Regal Springs’ future growth.

Millar Cameron relieved search pressures and presented both a strong longlist and shortlist for the position, which resulted in the hiring of Laurent Develle, who is now a key member of our executive team. We enjoyed working with Angus throughout, he adhered to timelines, provided vital updates, and ultimately through a robust search process found us the best candidate for the position.
