About the role
Reporting to the Membership Director, the Deputy Membership Director will support the strategic and operational management of FSC’s international membership. This includes overseeing global member administration, engagement, recruitment, and retention, with a strong focus on inclusive, chamber-balanced representation.
This newly created role requires a proactive and collaborative leader who can apply data-driven strategies to strengthen member participation and retention. You will work across regions and teams to guide key initiatives, provide insights, and foster a culture of equity, learning, and practical problem-solving.
Key dimensions of the role
Deputy Membership Director, based in Bonn, Germany, will have responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Support and execute membership strategy by analyzing trends, identifying growth barriers, and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Oversee data collection and analysis to generate insights that inform strategy and improve reporting systems.
- Monitor membership growth and retention, recommending data-driven improvements.• Assist in managing resources, work plans, budgets, and ensure efficient contract and administrative processes.
- Foster collaboration across regional teams, country offices, and partners to align efforts.
- Support key deliverables like member satisfaction surveys and prepare materials for board and leadership discussions.
- Help plan and execute membership events and programs to boost engagement.
- Track and report on membership initiative outcomes, ensuring alignment with goals
Skills and experience
The desired candidate will have, but not be limited to:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of professional experience, including 4+ years in leadership
- Experience in membership or network management, preferably in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Strong skills in analyzing complex challenges and developing actionable strategies
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI) and experience enhancing data systems
- Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Proven project management and team coordination skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication for diverse audiences
- Ability to foster collaboration across cultures and functions, balancing diverse perspectives
- Leadership skills to build teams, networks, and inclusive environments
- High motivation, flexibility, and problem-solving ability
- Experience in multicultural, multilingual, global teams, with regional knowledge of Africa, Asia, and Latin America
- Sustainability awareness, including environmental impact
- Commitment to FSC’s mission and values
- Fluency in English; French or Spanish is a plus
