What’s your current role at Millar Cameron?
I am a Delivery Consultant at Millar Cameron, specializing in international development. My job includes managing the entire executive search process, from researching and mapping candidates to interviewing them and preparing them for client meetings. I also work closely with clients to understand their needs and make sure our search strategy matches their goals. I coordinate between candidates and clients and provide support throughout the process to ensure successful placements and long-term satisfaction.
Why executive search? What led you to a career in this space?
With a background in chemical engineering, I developed strong skills in problem-solving and project management. However, I realized that I was missing a connection to people and how they influence business success. I enjoyed the technical aspects of engineering but found my real interest was in understanding people and how leadership and team dynamics affect outcomes.
This led me to explore roles where I could use my analytical skills in a people-focused way. Executive search turned out to be the perfect fit. It allows me to apply my problem-solving skills to find and recruit top talent for leadership roles, matching my technical background with my interest in people and how they contribute to success.

Yes, I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, which gives me a strong connection to the region. My experiences have helped me understand both the opportunities and challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. Working here allows me to make a real difference and stay connected to my roots, helping to drive positive change.
Recruiting for senior management, director and C-suite positions requires a unique skill set. How do you prepare your candidates for the recruitment process at this level?
I start by getting a clear understanding of the client’s organization, culture, and role requirements to help both us and the candidates see the full picture. I focus on being transparent and showcasing candidates’ passion, ensuring their skills match the client’s needs. Recruiting in emerging markets involves understanding different cultural contexts and business practices. Millar Cameron’s experience in these areas helps us provide candidates with the insights and support they need to handle these unique challenges.
ABOUT THE SECTOR
Is there any one single placement which you are most proud of? Or feel has had the greatest impact on the communities you are so passionate about?
I am particularly proud of my placement with AERC (African Economic Research Consortium). This role significantly impacted the communities by advancing economic research and policy across Africa. It also gave me the opportunity to speak with individuals who have made incredible contributions to improving Africa’s economic state.
What do you see as the biggest recruitment opportunity and conversely challenge, currently playing out within the sector over the next 12 months?
The growing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and localization presents both significant opportunities and challenges in the international development sector over the next 12 months. As organizations increasingly prioritize DEI, there is a strong demand for talent who can drive these initiatives and foster inclusive workplaces. Simultaneously, the push for localization - shifting more responsibility and decision-making to local leaders and communities - requires recruiting individuals who deeply understand local contexts while being able to integrate global best practices. Navigating these dual priorities adds complexity to recruitment and program implementation, but it also offers a unique opportunity to build leadership that is both globally informed and locally empowered, ultimately driving more sustainable and impactful development outcomes.
